Housing Aid for Older People (HOPS)

Older people, aged 66 and over, living in poor housing conditions can apply for a grant. Examples of poor housing conditions include structural repairs or improvements, re-wiring, dry-lining, repairs to or replacements of some/all windows and doors, provision of central heating*, water and sanitary services, and any other repair or improvement works which are considered reasonably necessary to bring the property to an acceptable standard for the applicant.

All HOP applications will be assessed on household income and the maximum grant is €10,700.All grants are subject to council funding being available. Only fully completed application forms, including all documentation requested on the checklist below will be accepted.

  • Grants can be for the repair or provision of central heating, including the repair of an existing fossil fuel boiler or the purchase and installation of a second hand fossil fuel burner or a new electric or biomass central heating solution. Grants do not cover the purchase of new standalone fossil fuel boiler.
