Civic Leadership and PEACE Building

Delivered by Dundalk Youth Centre - DYC

The Civic Leadership and PEACE Building Project launched in December 2018 with the aim of addressing the gap between young people and the decision-making bodies that make decisions on their behalf. The project supported 40 young people in identifying the issues that affect their lives, examining the historical and cultural diversity that exists in this region and develop initiatives to address issues of trust, prejudice and intolerance.

Dundalk Youth centre held a two day residential programme in South Armagh for the group. This was important from a team building perspective to enable greater interaction and shared learning in future course elements.

The Civic Leadership Project worked with Comhairle na nÓg to provide training, study visits and events to understand conflict and help build a more peaceful future. This included a full day event in Bluebell glamping in Mullaghbane, Co. Armagh in July 2020 where the young people participated in workshops on racism and discrimination.

The project went on a study trip to Berlin in April 2019 to see the impact of the wars on the city.

An online closing event for the project was held in December 2021. The event highlighted the work of the projects in developing dialogue and building Peace in County Louth and the Border Region during one of the most challenging times we probably have ever had due to the pandemic.
