A guided cross-community historical walking tour of Drogheda took place on Saturday 1st July as part of the PEACE IV Programme. This walking tour was in celebration of the different communities and traditions in Drogheda coming together and was initiated at the new Peter’s Plaza shared space in the town.

The walk took participants through the key historical sites of the town including St. Peter’s Church of Ireland, the Highlanes Gallery and Millmount. It was attended by members of both the Church of Ireland and Presbyterian communities as well as Roman Catholic communities.

Speaking about the event, PEACE IV Programme Manager Niall Gallagher said “This was a fantastic example of people from different communities in Drogheda coming together and exploring a shared history. It was fitting that it had the new PEACE IV funded shared space at Peter’s Hill as its focal point. This is everything that the PEACE Programme is about.”

It is envisioned that walking groups will be among many others who will continue to use this shared space as a meeting point and as part of the fabric of life in the town. Participants continue to be attracted from across different communities in both Louth and the greater region.
