Weather Update: Status Orange Rain Warning

Louth County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team (SWAT) met on Friday, 6 February, to assess the ongoing weather conditions.

A Status Orange Rain Warning remains in place for Louth, but Met Éireann has revised the duration, and it will now expire at 12pm on Friday.

County round-up below.

Dundalk

  • Hazelwood Avenue and Bay Estate are closed to vehicles
  • Localised flooding at Cluan Enda and the Red Barns Road
  • A tanker has been deployed to try to alleviate the water levels in those areas
  • The Ardee Road, which was badly affected last week, remains passable
  • Pumping continues to take place at the Blackwater River, Dundalk
  • Greyacre Road and Green Road are impassable

Cooley/North Louth

  • Parts of the road at Ballagan/Ballynamoney, which were left badly damaged last week, were further undermined by debris washed inland overnight. Crews have made the road passable, but motorists are asked to approach with caution
  • Localised flooding on the R174 Dulargy
  • Localised flooding at R173 Omeath, Howe’s Hill crossroads
  • Localised flooding at Howe’s Hill, towards Corrakit
  • Flooding at the Waterworks, Drumnasillagh, Ravensdale
  • Crews are en route to deal with a blocked culvert at Ballymakellett

Blackrock

  • No major incidents reported overnight
  • Main Street will be closed one hour before and after high tide (2.19pm) on Friday
  • Wave heights expected to reach 5.2m

Ardee/Mid Louth

  • No major incidents reported
  • Minor flooding on Hale Street in Ardee has since been addressed
  • Crews removed a fallen tree on the R169 outside
  • Disappointingly, three one-tonne sandbags that were in place on the N2 Drogheda Road in Ardee to divert running water away from nearby properties were stolen overnight
  • Washed-up debris was removed from the Port Road

Drogheda/South Louth

  • No major incidents reported
  • Localised flooding on one side of the Marsh Road, but it remains passable
  • Wellington Quay is expected to flood at high tide on Friday (2.11pm)
  • Wave heights expected to reach 4.54m

Public Information

The public is urged to remain vigilant of debris on roads, avoid floodwater, and please heed all signage in relation to closed roads.

Emergency Response Payment for households

An Emergency Response Payment is available to provide support to those living in properties directly affected by flooding. To date, there has been one application in Louth for the support.

Flood scheme for businesses, community, voluntary and sporting bodies

An Emergency Humanitarian Flooding Scheme is open for small businesses, community, voluntary and sports organisations affected by flooding.
