Pride of Place judges visit Dundalk and Drogheda nominees

Louth County Council recently hosted the judges of the renowned Pride of Place competition.

The events were held in Drogheda and Dundalk, where nominees showcased the exceptional efforts and initiatives of their communities within the county.

Pride of Place is a prestigious all island competition that acknowledges and celebrates the great work of communities throughout the country. To participate, community groups must demonstrate their unwavering commitment to their localities, their productive partnerships with local authorities, and their inclusivity by presenting their activities to a judging panel.

This year, Louth County Council, an advocate for community development and cohesion, proudly nominated two exceptional community initiatives to represent the county in the celebrated Pride of Place competition. ‘Drogheda District Support 4 Older People’ has been entered into the Age Friendly Initiative category, while ‘Outcomers’ Dundalk is competing in the Community Wellbeing category.

The judging process opened with presentations from the nominee groups, held at their respective project premises in Drogheda and Dundalk. The engaging sessions were followed by insightful question-and-answer interactions with the judges, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the profound impact these initiatives have on the community.

The competition, aimed at showcasing the vibrant spirit of communities across the island of Ireland, is organised by Co-operation Ireland in association with IPB Insurance.

Joan Martin, Chief Executive of Louth County Council said, "We are delighted that 'Drogheda District Support 4 Older People' and 'Outcomers' are representing Louth in this year's Pride of Place competition. It is a wonderful competition which highlights all that is best and innovative in communities throughout the island of Ireland."

Paula Gribben, Administrative Officer, Louth County Council, praised the nominees: “Both groups representing Louth were outstanding and we are confident that they will do well in this competition. It has been a pleasure for Louth County Council to work with both nominees over the years and we are extremely proud of their performance.”

The highly anticipated results of the competition will be revealed at a gala event on November 10th at the Armagh City Hotel, Armagh. Louth County Council extends its heartfelt wishes for success to both of its nominees.
