Over €227,000 granted to projects under Local Enhancement Programme

The Department of Rural and Community Development has confirmed that €227,247 has been allocated through the Louth Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) to local projects under the Local Enhancement Programme 2025.

The programme, a key part of the Government’s Our Rural Future strategy, is designed to support small-scale capital projects that enhance community facilities, encourage volunteerism, and promote social inclusion.

Among this year’s recipients in Louth, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, and Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities, Jerry Buttimer TD, are:

  • Lifestyle Development Group (Drogheda), who received €5,707, the highest grant awarded in the county.
  • Dundalk Youth Centre secured €5,440, while Footsteps Project (Drogheda) and Outcomers (Dundalk) both received €5,000 respectively to aid their organisations.
  • Dundalk football clubs St Dominic’s FC and Muirhevnamór FC each received €5,556, aiding in youth engagement through sport.
  • Irish Wheelchair Association in Ardee received €5,000 to enhance accessibility efforts.
  • Carlingford Tidy Towns was the top recipient in the area with €1,806, continuing their environmental and beautification projects.
  • Numerous community groups in areas like Clogherhead, Omeath, and Tallanstown received funding for facility upgrades, equipment, and essential services.

A total of €205,035 capital funding has been allocated to carry out necessary repairs and improvements to facilities, energy efficiency type projects and the purchase of equipment, while €34,172 of current funding will be used to cover running costs, such as rental/lease costs, utility bills, and insurance costs.

Finbar Gethins, Chief Officer of Louth Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), welcomed the funding, saying: “This funding is a wonderful acknowledgement of the diversity and strength of Louth’s community groups. From sporting organisations to youth services, environmental efforts to support for new communities, it’s inspiring to see such a broad spectrum of work supported right across the county.”

Nationally, over 5,400 projects are being supported this year, benefiting almost 4,500 community organisations under the €6 million fund.
