Louth County Council has announced three new Affordable Housing Schemes in Dundalk. The schemes will provide 31 new homes for private purchase by eligible applicants. The aim is to help people on moderate incomes buy their own home in County Louth.

The homes are located across three developments in Dundalk: Dowdalls Court, Newry Road; St Furseys Park, Dublin Road; and Bayview, Red Barns Road. Each development includes a mix of two‑ and three‑bedroom, two‑storey houses, suitable for individuals, couples and families.

Announcing the new schemes, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr Seán Kelly, said:

“These new affordable homes offer real opportunity for people in Dundalk and across Louth. They will help local individuals and families who have found it hard to afford a home to buy and to put down roots. Home ownership provides security, stability and a sense of belonging, and these schemes will make a genuine difference to the lives of people working and raising families in Dundalk and across the county.”

David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council added:

“The delivery of these affordable housing schemes demonstrates the Council’s strong strategic focus on meeting housing need at every level. They support our corporate objectives around strengthening communities and social inclusion while also helping us meet national housing delivery targets. Most importantly, these homes respond directly to the needs of people in Louth who want to own a home but need meaningful support to do so.”

Under Louth County Council’s Affordable Housing Scheme, eligible households with a gross income of up to €80,000 can purchase a new home at a discount of up to 20% below market value. Louth County Council keeps an equity share in the home equal to the discount. The council’s equity share must be repaid if the home is sold or after 40 years, unless it is bought out earlier.

The scheme is aimed at first‑time buyers and fresh start applicants who do not currently own a home but may have previously.

Ger Murphy, Director of Services, Louth County Council, said:

“Louth County Council has already delivered several affordable housing schemes throughout the county, and these new schemes in Dundalk build on that momentum. For anyone considering applying, it is important to begin preparing now. Applicants should check that they meet the income and eligibility criteria and talk to a mortgage provider early. When applications open, having documentation ready will make the process much smoother.”

Applications from prospective buyers will be accepted online only through the national Affordable Homes Portal - AffordableHomes.ie. For updates, including application dates and house prices, visit the Affordable Homes Portal and check Louth County Council’s website and social media channels.
