Louth Allocated €4.5million in Latest Round of Active Travel Funding

Louth County Council has been allocated €4.5 million in Active Travel funding for 2026 by the National Transport Authority (NTA). 

This investment will support the delivery of 28 walking and cycling projects across the county, enhancing safety, sustainability, and healthier travel options for residents of all ages.

The funded projects include:

  • €825,000 for the Safe Route to School Programme at Bellurgan National School
  • €800,000 for Active Travel improvements on the R132 Inner Relief Road, Dundalk
  • €525,000 for the Safe Route to School Programme at St Mary’s National School, Knockbridge
  • €550,000 for Active Travel enhancements along the Rathmullan Road, Drogheda
  • €500,000 for county-wide Bus Stop Enhancement Programme
  • €110,000 for Ard Easmuinn Rd to Train Station and Safe Routes to School Programme at Friary School.
  • €475,000 for Safe Routes to School Programme at Callystown National School

Louth’s allocation forms part of a €360 million nationwide investment in Active Travel and Greenway projects announced by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports Seán Canney TD, and Minister of State for Rural Transport Jerry Buttimer TD.
