Creative events marking Criunniù Na nÓg set for June 10th

Louth County Council are celebrating Criunniù Na nÓg, the annual day of free creativity for children and young people, which takes place on Saturday 10th June 2023.

This year is set to see a busy, action packed variety of workshops and activities being delivered across the county.

Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world that offers a national day of free creative activity for young people under the age of 18 years, and Louth County Council are proud to support a wide range of events.

The Cruinniù Na nÒg programme is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan, with the inaugural day taking place back in 2018.

The Louth programme is co-ordinated by the Culture and Creativity team from Louth County Council in partnership with stakeholders such as Droichead Arts Centre, An Táin Arts Centre, Creative Spark and Music Generation Louth.

This year there are lots to offer including live music, podcasting workshops, 3D printing, spray painting, circus themed workshops, filmmaking and much more. Here are some of our highlights:

Dundalk-  Cruinniú @ The Square - There will be an open air concert taking place in Dundalk town square from 12-4pm, with live performances from the Music Generation kids, MAD Youth Theatre and local youth bands from across the county. Some of the performers will take part in some DJing workshops in the run up to the event and there will be a mini rave to round off the day! Alongside the live performances, Creative Spark will have spray painting workshops going on and their mobile FabLab will be there to develop an outdoor 3D playground construction!

An Tàin Arts Centre will be hosting a number of events in their gallery basement and theatre spaces including workshops on podcasting, film making & on customising your clothes.

Louth Libraries- Louth’s Library service is going to the circus for this year’s Cruinniú and has the Broken Theatre group in to run their circus themed workshops across their branches in Ardee, Dundalk and Drogheda. There will be a number of spinning plate sets available, which you can get for free, by contacting your local library.  Each set includes a card with a QR code which brings you to two tutorials so you can get lots of practice in before the 10th June when you can come to the library and show off your skills! Spinning plate sets are limited so get your order in while stocks last!

Drogheda- Louth and Meath County Councils are collaborating this year to bring an extensive range of events to the Drogheda and East Meath Areas.

From Storytelling, Samba workshops, Filmmaking, Acting, Drama and Dance workshops for children & teenagers, there is something for everyone. There will be a special ‘Artists Alley’ in St Peters Church Hall, which will feature works from a range of young people from the Drogheda area who will showcase their art & music and there is also a range of music workshops happening across the town.

This impressive programme of over 20 events for the Drogheda/East Meath area is being curated by Droichead Arts Centre and supported by both Louth and Meath County Councils.

All events on June 10th are free. Booking is essential for workshops though and relevant materials will be provided, where applicable. All activities and events this year are in conjunction with An Tàin Arts Centre, Droichead Arts Centre, Creative Spark, Music Generation Louth, MAD Youth Theatre, Droichead Youth Theatre and Louth/Meath County Councils.
