Council Responds to Significant Illegal Dumping Incident Near Ardee

Dumped-Rubbish-(3)

Louth County Council is aware of significant illegal dumping at Shanliss, just outside Ardee. Council crews have been deployed to the area and clean-up works are underway. The illegally dumped material includes oil drums, which will be collected and disposed of in accordance with all relevant environmental and waste management regulations.

The incident is being investigated by Louth County Council’s Litter Wardens. Illegal dumping is an offence, and those found responsible risk prosecution, fines and conviction through the courts. Anyone who may have information in relation to this incident is encouraged to contact Louth County Council directly.

The Council reminds the public that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility and that everyone has a legal obligation to manage their waste correctly. It is an offence to hire or engage a person to remove waste unless that person is an authorised waste collector holding the required permits. Responsibility for waste remains with the householder or business that generated it, and using an unpermitted operator may result in prosecution, fines, and liability for the proper disposal of the waste. A list of authorised waste collectors is available from the National Waste Collection Permit Office at www.nwcpo.ie.
