Speaking after his election, Cllr Nash said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be elected Cathaoirleach of Dundalk Municipal District.

“To follow in the footsteps of so many wonderful councillors who have filled this position down through the years is a humbling experience, and, on behalf of the people of Dundalk and the surrounding area, I look forward to working with my colleagues over the next 12 months.

“I would also like to thank outgoing Cathaoirleach, Cllr Sean Kelly, for his hard work and outstanding service to the people of Dundalk over the last 12 months. He is a very hard act to follow, but I will do my very best, and I would also like to congratulate the new Leas Cathaoirleach, Cllr Andrea McKevitt, who will be a very able deputy.”
