The 2026 Borough District of Drogheda Mayoral Awards were held on Monday, 11 May, in the Exhibition Space at the Civic Offices, Fair Street, celebrating individuals and groups who make an exceptional contribution to life in the area.

The Mayoral Awards, provided for under the Local Government Act, give elected members an opportunity to formally recognise individuals and community groups whose efforts strengthen, inspire and represent the Drogheda community at local, national and international level.

Following a nomination and consideration process by the elected members of the Borough District of Drogheda, eight awards were presented to recipients whose commitment, service and achievements reflect the very best of civic and community life.

The event was compered by Joanna Kelly, Acting Director of Services, Louth County Council, and opened with a colour party by members of Louth County Council Fire and Rescue Service - Bernard Maguire, Dita Durse and Stephen Grey. Attendees were also treated to a number of songs by Voices of the Boyne, an all-female choir, led by conductor Claire Grogan and musician Emer Leddy.

Cllr Michelle Hall, the 425th Mayor of the Borough District of Drogheda, highlighted the depth and diversity of nominations received and praised each recipient for the positive impact they have made within their communities.

“Tonight, at the 2026 Mayoral Awards, we recognise people among us who quietly and consistently make Drogheda a better place to live. They strengthen our community spirit, lift others, and remind us of the best values of our town - compassion, pride, resilience, generosity and service.

“As my year as Mayor comes to a close, I don’t take the privilege for granted. By June, I will have attended close to 200 events - each one made possible by volunteers, organisers and communities coming together to celebrate Drogheda and County Louth. These moments of connection are vital to our wellbeing and sense of belonging.

“To all of tonight’s recipients, your contributions show that true civic leadership is lived out every day through acts of kindness, commitment and community spirit. You are the people who make Drogheda Borough stronger and give us confidence in its future.”

David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council, also paid tribute to the award recipients, saying:

“The Mayoral Awards are a reminder that the true strength of Drogheda is found in its people, and the work being recognised reflects quiet leadership, steady dedication, and a willingness to give time and energy for the good of others. Louth County Council is proud to recognise the nominees for their contributions and the example they set for others.

“It is also an opportunity to say thank you not only to the recipients themselves, but also to their families. Public service and community commitment often require long hours, sacrifice, patience, and understanding at home. Behind so much of the good work carried out in our town are families who encourage, support, and stand beside those who give so much of themselves to others. Their commitment deserves recognition as well."

The eight nominees were invited forward to receive their certificates from Cllr Michelle Hall, Mayor of the Borough District of Drogheda, in front of family, friends and fellow community members.
