Status Yellow Rain Warning

A Status Yellow Rainfall Warning for Louth is in effect from 9am on Friday, 14th November until 9am on Saturday, 15th November.

Heavy and persistent rain is expected to fall on saturated ground, bringing difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.

Flooding

A river flood advisory has been issued for Louth. The river risk for the county is HIGH, which means rivers are prone to out-of-bank flooding, exceeding known flood levels.

River flooding, particularly in high ground areas, poses a significant risk from Friday evening through Saturday.

Localised flooding is expected in County Louth over the coming days due to a combination of high tides and persistent heavy rain.

Status Yellow Wind Warning

A Status Yellow Wind Warning, bringing strong and gusty northeasterly winds, has also been issued for Louth.

The Wind Warning is valid from 12pm on Friday, 14th November to 4am on Saturday, 15th November.

Possible impacts include difficult travelling conditions and wind-related debris.

Important Public Information

  • There is a potential for tidal flooding in coastal areas, especially in Eastern counties. In addition to this, heavy persistent showers are expected, which in turn may lead to surface flooding in urban locations.
  • The public is advised to stay away from coastal areas during this period. The Irish Coast Guard are appealing to people to “Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry”.
  • Stay away from swollen rivers, streams and flooded riverbanks – banks can collapse without warning.
  • Avoid open riverbanks and canal paths in flood conditions – water levels and currents may be far stronger than usual.
  • Slow down, increase stopping distances and watch for surface water and debris on roads
  • If the road ahead is flooded, do not enter – turn around and find another route.
  • Follow advice from emergency services and your local authority
  • Avoid contact with floodwater where possible; it may be contaminated with sewage, chemicals or sharp debris
  • Farmers in affected areas are advised to move vehicles, machinery and livestock to higher ground before flooding arrives, where possible.
  • People are advised to prepare for this period of severe weather, including ensuring their mobile phone is fully charged to enable communication.
