Storm Éowyn Update: January 24th

The Louth County Council Crisis Management Team met the Interagency Local Coordination Group with their counterparts from An Garda Síochána and the HSE on Friday morning to discuss the ongoing effects of Storm Éowyn.

A Status Red Wind Warning ran from 6am to midday, but a Status Orange Wind Warning is now in place from midday until 4pm today.

The public is still advised to shelter in place, refrain from any unnecessary travel and avoid coastal areas during this period.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any ‘risks to life’ during the Status Red Warning.

Louth County Council would like to again stress that the storm is ongoing and ask the public to adhere to the guidelines that have been issued by the relevant authorities.

As of 1.30pm on Friday, over 100 calls had been received by Louth County Council’s customer service team concerning trees and power lines that were reported to have fallen on roads and locations around the county.

Numerous houses are without power, and communications and this number is set to rise in the hours and days ahead.

Emergency crews are now deploying, but Louth County Council emphasise that crews will only be able to attend to situations whenever it is safe for them to do so in the Status Orange Warning and priority will be provided to key cases.

There were three incidents reported to the Louth County Council Fire and Rescue Service overnight. The crew didn’t mobilise as there was no danger to life.

On lunchtime Friday, the crew were deployed to remove a tree that was blocking a house on the Carrickmacross Road, Dundalk.

All Louth County Council offices, libraries, facilities and work sites will remain closed on Friday.

The public is asked to report any incidents to Louth County Council’s 24/7 telephone service which is available at 042 933 5457.

Updates will be provided throughout the day and across the weekend on the Louth County Council X account.
