Status Red Weather Warning: Storm Éowyn

Louth County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met on Wednesday afternoon to plan for the arrival of Storm Éowyn.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Red Wind warning for Louth which will be in effect from 6am until 12pm on Friday 24th January.

Storm Éowyn will bring gale-force winds with severe, damaging and destructive gusts of up to 130km per hour and could potentially pose a danger to life.

Structural damage is expected, along with fallen trees, damage to power lines and power outages, very difficult travelling conditions, disruption and cancellations to transport services and large coastal waves with wave overtopping.

Members of the public are advised to shelter in place throughout the red warning and avoid travel.

The forecasted winds have the capacity to bring severe, destructive and damaging winds which will constitute a risk to life and property.

The public is advised to stay away from coastal areas during this period with the Irish Coast Guard appealing for people to ‘Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry’.
