Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2024 & Historic Structures Fund 2024

Malcolm Noonan TD, Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, launched (02 November, 2023) the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and the Historic Structures Fund for 2024.

Louth County Council is currently inviting applications under both schemes, as follows:

 Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2024:

The BHIS, administered by Louth County Council, is intended to assist with the repair and conservation of structures protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), the Record of Protected Structures (RPS), and in certain cases, works to structures within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs).

The minimum funding awarded under this scheme will be €2,500, up to a maximum of €15,000.  Successful applicants will be required to, at a minimum, match their funding award i.e. 50/50. 

Historic Structures Fund (HSF) 2024:

Funding for the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) is being made available as part of Project Ireland 2040 and focuses on caring for and restoring historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.

The HSF supports more substantial works on historic or heritage structures. The funding comprises of two streams: Stream 1 for with supports offered ranging from €15,000 to €50,000. For 2024, the HSF continues to include streams for Vernacular Structures and Historic Shopfronts and Stream 2 with supports from €50,000 to €200,000.

Only one application will be considered per historic structure, and while applicants may apply to both the Historic Structures Fund and Built Heritage Investment Scheme, they may not avail of funding under both.

 Completed applications, along with all relevant supporting documentation, can be submitted by hard copy to Conservation Grants, Louth County Council, Town Hall, Dundalk, Co. Louth A91 W20C or by email to conservation@louthcoco.ie.
