Louth’s Electoral Register Completes the Transition to Voter.ie
Louth County Council is encouraging all eligible residents to check their electoral registration details following the county's transition to the new national voter registration system, Voter.ie.
The online platform makes it easier for people to register to vote, check their registration details and update their information in one place.
Anyone aged 18 or over and living in County Louth can use voter.ie to register to vote or update their details. Young people aged 16 and 17 can also pre-register and will be automatically added to the Register of Electors when they reach the age of 18.
Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr Dolores Minogue, said:
"Voting gives people a voice in the decisions that affect their communities and their country. I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to visit Voter.ie, check their details and make sure they are ready to vote when the next election or referendum takes place."
Louth County Council maintains and reviews the Register of Electors to ensure it remains accurate and up to date. The Electoral Commission's 2025 Oversight Report identified Louth County Council as one of the strongest-performing local authorities in the State for electoral register quality.
To maintain this high standard, authorised Field Officers are visiting households throughout County Louth to verify registration information. The Council may also issue correspondence to residents requesting confirmation of their details. All authorised Field Officers carry official identification and will only seek information required for electoral registration purposes.
Chief Executive of Louth County Council, David Conway, said:
"An accurate Register of Electors is fundamental to the democratic process. Voter.ie provides a simple and convenient way for people to manage their registration details while helping to improve the overall accuracy of the register. We would encourage anyone who is contacted by the Council as part of our ongoing review and maintenance of the register to respond promptly and ensure their information is up to date."
Residents who receive correspondence from Louth County Council regarding the Register of Electors should follow the instructions provided. Failure to respond may result in a person's details being removed from the register.
Anyone with questions or concerns about their registration status, or who wishes to verify the authenticity of correspondence or a visit from a Field Officer, can contact Louth County Council directly. Electors are encouraged to ask to see official identification from any authorised Field Officer carrying out registration-related work on behalf of the Council.
