Louth County Council Welcomes Progress at New Social Housing Scheme in Louth Village
Louth County Council members and officials visited the Council's new social housing development, An Mullach, in Louth Village on Wednesday, 2 September to view progress on the delivery of 58 new social homes for individuals and families in Mid-Louth.
Constructed by Cunningham, the development will provide a mix of two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom homes, along with a five-bedroom supported living house that will be managed by St John of God.
The scheme commenced in December 2024 and is expected to be handed over to Louth County Council in October 2026. The first homes will be advertised through the Council's Choice Based Lettings (CBL) system from mid-September, with allocations and move-ins expected before the end of the year.
An Mullach is being delivered directly by Louth County Council under its Accelerated Delivery Programme (ADP) for social housing projects. The programme supports the delivery of high-quality homes and sustainable communities using accelerated construction methods and technologies. The scheme is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage through the Social Housing Capital Investment Programme (SHCIP).
Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr Dolores Minogue, said:
"Every new social home delivered makes a real difference to people and families across our county. An Mullach is another example of the progress being made as we continue to increase housing supply. While more work remains, it is encouraging to see high-quality homes being delivered at pace."
Cathaoirleach of Municipal District of Ardee, Cllr Jim Tenanty, said:
"Louth Village is a great place to live, work and raise a family, with a strong sense of community and local pride. Developments like An Mullach help people put down roots and build their futures in an area where they can feel connected and supported. I look forward to seeing these homes completed and allocated, and to seeing the residents of An Mullach become an active part of community life here in Louth Village."
Director of Services with Louth County Council, Ger Murphy, said the scheme will provide new housing opportunities for households on the Council's housing list.
"These homes will be ready for allocation before the end of the year. The first properties will be advertised through Choice Based Lettings from mid-September. The system allows eligible applicants to view available properties online and express an interest in homes that meet their needs, giving them greater choice in where they live."

The delivery of An Mullach forms part of Louth County Council's ambitious social housing programme under the Government's Housing for All and Delivering Homes, Building Communities plans.
Louth County Council continues to progress a strong pipeline of social housing developments across the county and remains on course to deliver a total of 526 new social homes in 2026.

Housing for All was launched in September 2021, a national housing plan to provide more affordable, good-quality homes for purchase or rent, targeting the delivery of 300,000 homes by the end of 2030. In November 2025, the Government published its new housing plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities. It aims to deliver over 300,000 homes during the lifetime of the plan.
