Louth County Council Signs Contract for North Boyne Greenway Improvements
Louth County Council has signed a contract with Mullacurry Construction for phase one of a major enhancement and extension project on the north bank of the Boyne Greenway in Drogheda.
Based in Dromin, Co Louth, Mullacurry Construction is an award-winning building and civil engineering company. O'Connor Sutton Cronin (OCSC) has been appointed as PSDP, Designer and Employer's Representative for the project.
The works will focus on upgrading approximately 950 metres of the existing route and will include new surfacing, fencing, drainage, public lighting, seating and bins. Construction is scheduled to commence in late September 2026, with completion of phase one expected in early 2027.
Subject to future contracts, a second phase will deliver a further 650 metres of new trail and additional enhancements. When all phases are complete, the North Boyne Greenway will provide a continuous pathway of approximately 1.6 km, creating a safer and more enjoyable route for residents and visitors alike.
In November 2025, the project received funding of €500,000 under Measure 3 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
This investment supports the development of high-quality outdoor recreation infrastructure that encourages walking, leisure cycling and running, in line with the objectives of Embracing Ireland's Outdoors and Louth County Council's Tourism Strategy & Action Plan 2026-2031.
