Tribute to Eavan Boland

Join in an online tribute to the late Eavan Boland, Poet. on Wed 27th May at 6pm (Irish time)

Poetry Ireland, the Irish Arts Center, and the Embassy of Ireland to the United States invite you to join us in a special transatlantic tribute to the poet, teacher, and friend Eavan Boland.   Cherished as perhaps the outstanding poet of her generation, Eavan Boland’s imprint as an artist was truly global. She played an inspiring role to emerging Irish writers throughout her career, most recently as Editor of Poetry Ireland Review, and spent a quarter century at Stanford guiding the artistic development of some of America’s finest young writers. Her influence on the East Coast of the United States also extended through the decades, including as a regular contributor to The New Yorker.   This tribute to the artist comes a month after her passing, and will include: former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson; Mayor of Seattle Jenny Durkan; Ireland’s Ambassador to the US, Daniel Mulhall, and Permanent Representative to the UN, Geraldine Byrne NasonKevin Young, poetry editor of the New Yorker; novelists & short story writers Tobias Wolff and Belinda McKeon; poets Paula Meehan, Alvy Carragher, Marie Howe and Solmaz Sharif; musician Loah; and Poetry Aloud winner Michael Tient among its many guest speakers and readers from across the United States and Ireland. Hosted by Maureen Kennelly, of the Arts Council of Ireland; Rachael Gilkey, of the Irish Arts Center; and Christina Ablaza, of Stanford’s Creative Writing Program.

This tribute will take place via Zoom and will stream to social media on Wednesday 27 May at 6pm Irish Standard Time, 1pm EST, 10am PST.
