If you are a tenant of Louth County Council, you must ensure that your rent does not fall into arrears, as it is a very serious matter that could threaten your tenancy.
If an arrears situation arises, please follow these steps to avoid any further action:-
- Continue to pay your weekly rent plus a portion off your arrears, every week.
- Immediately contact Louth County Council's Customer Services Section or the Rents Section, and advise of your predicament.
- A payment plan should be agreed with the Rents Section, ideally through Household Budget or Bank.
- This payment plan must be adhered to.
- All payment plan documentation is available below.
If you have arrears, you must complete a Payment Plan Agreement for Rent and Arrears
Next, you must decide how to pay your rent:-
1. Household Budget:
If you receive your social welfare payment in the post office, you may be eligible for a rent deduction from your payment. This is very easy to do. To find out if your payment is suited to Household Budget, please click here Household Budget Qualifying Payments
If your payment is listed, you simply complete a Household Budget form, sign twice where indicated, and send this to the Housing Rents Section. You can also drop your form into your local Council offices.
The maximum amount that can be taken from your payment is 25%, so if you receive €193 per week, this is €193 divided by 4 = €48.25 per week.

2. Bank Standing Order:
If you cannot pay your rent by Household Budget, the Council recommends that you pay your rent by Bank. You must contact your bank to do this. Please click on the following link for the Council’s bank details Standing Order Form
3. Direct Debit:
You can also pay your rent by monthly Direct Debit on the 15th of every month.
To work out how much your monthly payment is, it is weekly rent X 52 weeks divided by 12 months, e.g. Rent €25 x 52 divided by 12 = €108.33 per month.
If you would like to pay by Direct Debit, please complete the Direct Debit Form Housing Rent and return this to the Housing Rents Section.

Meetings can be arranged by appointment in Dundalk on a Thursday. Or you can drop into Drogheda on Monday afternoons to speak with a member of the Rents Team.
Please Note: All Tenants who signed their Tenancy Agreement after June 2014, must pay their rent by Household Budget or Bank.
Other Payment Methods:
Card Payments: at the following Payment Outlets in Louth and Post Offices. If you would like a card please contact us.
Cash Office: in person at the Cash Office, Louth County Council, County Hall, or Town Hall, Dundalk, or Fair Street, Drogheda.
By phone: phone 042 9335457 and ask for the Cash Office. You will need your laser or credit card details, and rent account number.

Have your circumstances changed?
If so, you must inform the Council. To do this, you need to complete a rent form and submit details of your income, including details for all your household members. You can download a Rent Form. Or you can ring us at 042 9335457 and request that one be posted to you, or one can be picked one up at any of our Council offices. All signed and completed forms must be sent to the Housing Rents Section.
