Water Safety

Louth County Council operates in partnership with Irish Water Safety and the local County Committee to provide water safety and raise awareness. "Every person a swimmer and every swimmer a lifesaver" is their motto. The Council through their Water Safety Development Officer ensures and maintains the provision of lifesaving equipment at popular aquatic locations throughout the County. Anecdotal evidence confirms the usage of this equipment in many rescues.

Lifeguards are provided annually on Blue Flag beaches during the bathing season.

In conjunction with the local area committee of Water Safety, courses in advanced swimming, rescue and resuscitation techniques are run in pools in Drogheda, Gormanstown and Dundalk during the school year. Outdoor weeks are run at Gyles Quay and Clogherhead during the summer.

Committee members endeavour to visit as many schools as possible to raise awareness of water safety.
