Louth County Council Brings Opera To Nursing Homes

26th March 2021:    Louth County Council Arts Office in recognition of the heartbreaking struggle facing residents of nursing homes during Covid wanted to do something to bring some joy and reprieve. The question was what, and the answer was Opera.

When the word Opera is spoken this can invoke visions of fine palatial opera houses and luxurious theatres; a van is not what initially spring so mind, but as we know music transcends all boundaries, and not all vans are equal.

‘Festival in a Van’ is a mobile live arts event which can safely bring live music of various genres to outside areas. The van is not just any van but comes fully equipped with sound, light and two technicians, one of whom is a Covid safety officer.  Fully covid safety measures are adhered to and all the team are trained in Covid-19 Healthcare protocols, and look forward to delivering a short uplifting musical experience.

Louth County Council is delighted to have been able to book ‘Festival in a Van’ to bring a live performance to the outside of three nursing homes in Co. Louth. Having renowned opera singer, Louth resident Gavan Ring, an artist from the Irish National Opera, to perform on the day is the icing on the cake.  Gavan will be singing an uplifting mixture of opera, musical favourites and classics.

Funding was secured by Louth County Council from the Healthy Ireland/ Sláintecare/ Community Resilience Fund 2020 and a nursing home was chosen in each of the borough and municipal districts.

Our Festival in a Van will take place on Tuesday 6th of April 2021.  The three nursing homes it will visit are:

St. Oliver Plunkett Hospital, Dundalk, with the performance at 10.00am

Moorehall Lodge Nursing Home, Ardee, with the performance at 12:15pm

Boyne View House Nursing Home, Drogheda, with the performance at 14:30pm

This is open to residents and staff of the nursing homes only.
